Running the gambit

After a chase, Lathrop ultimately reached the empty, damaged pickup off the road at Blinds Crossing. Sagadahoc Sheriff’s Department Deputy Mark Anderson, who assisted in the search for the driver, drove down Creekside Drive, near the accident scene, and saw the driver in a second vehicle, a white pickup, which drove toward Anderson and stopped about 50 feet in front of his cruiser. Matthew Gaspar, 23, of Brunswick, reportedly jumped out of the driver’s seat and tried to flee, but Anderson tackled him. Gaspar was arrested, and his charges from both the Sagadahoc Sheriff’s and Bath Police departments included unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, driving to endanger, failure to stop for a law enforcement officer, operating under the influence, violating conditions of release, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
