BATH — Police charged a Bath man with burglary after a break-in early Wednesday morning at a Commercial Street business.

Mark Johnson, 36, was also placed on a probation hold.

Bath police at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday responded to a burglary in progress at Seaside Tattoo, where a witness reported seeing two men fleeing the scene with what seemed to be items from the 97 Commercial St. business.

Johnson was allegedly trying to discard evidence from the burglary as he ran toward the Sagadahoc Bridge, according to police. With help from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson was arrested and taken to the Bath Police Department.

Police said Johnson and the other man, who remained unidentified Wednesday morning, forcibly entered the rear of the business and took an undisclosed amount of money.

Johnson’s bail at Two Bridges Regional Jail was set at $1,500; he is due to appear in West Bath District Court July 18.
