BATH — It starts in Gardiner and ends, 38 miles later, in the midst of Bath’s annual Heritage Days celebration.

The Capital to Coast Exploration Bike Ride, which takes place Saturday, July 5, starts in Gardiner and runs through Richmond, Bowdoinham, Topsham, Brunswick and West Bath before concluding in Bath.

Participants can check in at McMann Field  from 8:15-8:45 a.m., or at Waterfront Park in Gardiner at 9:20 a.m. The ride leaves Gardiner at 9:30 a.m.

Bicyclists of all abilities are welcome, and frequent stops will be included in the 10-12 mph ride for resting and regrouping.

The event costs $10 for those taking the bus from Bath to Gardiner, and is free if riders arrange their own transportation.

The trek runs through communities trying to expand multi-use off-road trails to form an interconnected route.

The Merrymeeting and Androscoggin to the Kennebec trails are being planned; the first would connect the Kennebec River Rail Trail to the Androscoggin River Bicycle and Pedestrian Path in Brunswick, while the other would run from the Androscoggin path to downtown Bath, according to the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust.

Participants are asked to pre-register by Friday, June 27. Contact Ruth Indrick at 442-8400 or rindrick@kennebecestuary.org; log on to merrymeetingtrail.org/events.html for more information.
