BATH — The U.S. Navy on Tuesday awarded Bath Iron Works two contracts totaling about $57 million, according to U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, D-Maine.
One $28.7 million contract funds fleet maintenance work. The other, for the same amount, funds engineering and design work on the Littoral Combat Ship, according to a press release from Pingree’s office.
That vessel is intended to operate in near-shore (littoral) waters, hauling small amphibious assault forces, helicopters and equipment.
Pingree serves on the House Appropriations Committee, which determines Navy program funding levels.
