BATH — The reported attempted abduction Wednesday afternoon of a 12-year-old boy was found to be a hoax, police said the next day.

After investigators interviewed the boy at length, he admitted the story was made up. He has not been charged with a crime at this point, but investigators have continued to talk with the boy and his family.

A police press release Wednesday said the boy told them he was approached near the 500 block of Middle Street at about 3 p.m. by a man driving a grayish-green minivan with a small antenna on the roof.

The boy claimed the van’s driver reportedly reached out of the van, grabbed the boy, and tried to pull him into the van. The boy said he managed to free himself, then ran home.
