PORTLAND — Barry A. Wilcox, 70, of Falmouth, formerly of Cumberland, died unexpectedly on July 22.  

Born on Nov. 25, 1940, in Brockton, Mass., he was the son of Marion (Bruns) and Roy T. Wilcox.  

In 1959 he graduated from Deering High School, and in 1963 he graduated from University of Maine Orono with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.  

For 35 years he worked for Nestle.

An active member of the Cumberland community throughout his adult life, he served as chairman of the School Board, and volunteered in youth sports as an umpire and coach.

He truly enjoyed golf, and served on the board of directors at Val Halla and was past president of Val Halla Golf Association.

His good-natured character and easy spirit contributed to a family home where friends and family were welcomed with an open heart and non-judgmental acceptance. A wonderful father and devoted grandfather, he will be well-remembered and missed by all who knew him.  

Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Bonnie Wilcox of Falmouth; his two sons, Andrew Wilcox and his wife Julie, and their children, Nicholas and Emily of Bradenton, Fla., and Darren Wilcox and his wife Kara of Roselindale, Mass.; his two sisters, Debbie Auclair, her husband Paul and their sons, Derek and Ryan of Westbrook; and Janice Wilcox of Nassua, N.H.

A memorial service will be celebrated at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 396 Gilman Road, Yarmouth on Tuesday, July 26 at 2 p.m., with a reception to follow at Val Halla Country Club in Cumberland.
