GEORGETOWN — Barbara L. French, 80, died April 5 at Mid Coast Hospital.

She was born in Kingfield, Nov. 11, 1928, a daughter of Edgar E. and Cora L. (Howard) Vose.

As a young woman working in a Kingfield boarding home, she met Stanley C. French. They eloped on July 10, 1948, and moved to Brunswick.

She was a caring homemaker who could often be heard singing old classic American folk songs while she worked. After raising her family, she worked for many years as a private care attendant.

Her interests included kneedlework, studying Amish culture, and playing beano.

She was predeceased by her husband Stanley in 1979; daughter Wendy L. French in 2008, brothers, Harry L. Vose, Edgar L. Vose and Gordon Vose, and sister Isabelle T. Grover.

She is survived by children, Mark S. French of Georgetown and Ellen E. Dalton of Topsham; grandson, Cody D. Dalton of Topsham; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held in May at Mountainside Cemetery in Georgetown.
