PORTLAND — Barbara K. Tuttle, 85, of Portland, died June 24 at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Residence.

She was born May 10, 1928, in Portland, a daughter of Charles and Mary McDonough King. Tuttle was educated locally and was a 1946 graduate of Cathedral High School and a 1950 graduate of St. Joseph’s College.

She married Joseph Anthony Tuttle Sr. at St. Dominic’s Church in 1958 and they began raising their family. She worked for the Department of Human Services; and later worked at the East End Children’s Workshop as a social worker for many years.

Tuttle was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and a former member of the Home and School Association, serving as president and a former member of the Sodality at St. Joseph’s.

She is predeceased by her husband,  who died Oct. 5, 1997; her parents; sisters Margaret Campbell, Eleanor Hooper, Katherine Welch, and Mary King; brothers John King and Charles King; and nephew, William King.

Surviving are four daughters, Amy Sweeney, and husband, John, Carol O’Brien, and husband, James, Jane Miller, and husband, Joseph, all of Portland, and Pamela Walker, and husband, Chet, of Westbrook; two sons, Joseph A. Tuttle Jr. and his wife, Kathryn, and Martin F. Tuttle, both of Portland; brother, Thomas King; sisters-in-law Bette King, of Standish, Marilyn King, of South Portland, and Amy Ashton, Evelyn Tuttle, Muriel Begert, and Mary Riley, all of Lewiston; and 10 grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday at St. Joseph’s Church, 673 Stevens Ave., Portland, followed by Interment at Calvary Cemetery, in South Portland.
