SOUTH PORTLAND — Barbara Frances Carroll, 92, died Nov. 4, 2013 at the Monarch Center in Saco, following a long illness.

She was born in Portland, Aug. 30, 1921, the daughter of William and Catherine Kelley Carroll. She attended St. Dominic’s School and graduated from Cathedral High School.

Carroll worked her entire career with the New England Telephone Co., retiring after more than 30 years of service. Following her retirement, she became a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

She lived a very spirited life and she lived it her own way, always willing to speak up. Along with her sister Mary, she was never afraid to take on a project around the house. Whether it was hanging wall paper or painting the exterior, they were up for the task.

She was an avid reader, and loved taking long walks with her dog Toby, spending time at Old Orchard Beach, gardening, sewing her own clothes and visiting Ireland. Her happiest time was spent cooking Sunday dinners and having her family gathered around the table.

She was predeceased by her sister, Mary J. Carroll; and three brothers, John, Patrick and James Carroll.

She is survived by three nieces, Ann Carroll, of Portland, Mary Lou Shuster, of South Portland and Alisa Carroll, of Massachusetts, along with several other nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held Nov. 8, at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland, at 9 a.m., with prayers being at Broadway and Cottage Road, South Portland. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, 1461 Broadway, South Portland.
