FALMOUTH — Barbara B. Leighton, 80, died May 19 at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston as result of complications from surgery.

Born in Falmouth on June 23, 1929, a daughter of Albert T. and Marion M. (Ramsdell) Bjorn, she was educated in Falmouth schools, and graduated from Falmouth High School in 1947.

Over the years she worked as an administrative assistant for various companies.

She loved antiques and she eventually became an antiques dealer and owned her own company.

Her passion was horses and she enjoyed trail riding in Maine and Vermont and relished her annual three-day ride in Cornish. A member of the Cumberland County Riding Club, she enjoyed the outdoors and all that nature had to offer.

A longtime advocate for animal rights, she loved her dog and cats like family.

She will be remembered for her outgoing, caring nature and for living life to the fullest.

She was predeceased by her husband, George “Buddy” Leighton.

Surviving are her sister, Dorothy Bates of Falmouth; her nephew, Douglas J. Smilie of Falmouth; her “adopted” daughter, Cynthia L. Ufkin and her husband Gary and their children, Noah, Melanie, Kelly and Gary of New Gloucester; very dear friends, Cindy Burrows and her two sons, Alex and Jeremy of Leeds, and Donna Maria Boudreau and her sons Miley and Quinn of Harpswell.

At her request, there will be no funeral services “and no sadness.”
