In a new exhibit at Gun Point Cove Gallery, Harpswell artist Doug Bane depicts America’s first people at a historical turning point. “100 Native Americans: Their Spirit Lives On” is a collection of pen-and-ink portraits, including “Plenty Coups,” based on 19th-century photography. “I have always felt a deep connection with Native Americans,” Bane said. “Their faces from the past have continually haunted me and made me wonder about who they really were as people.” The exhibit opens with a reception Sunday, Oct. 12, from 1-5 p.m, and runs to Dec 14. The gallery is at 1241 Harpswell Islands Road, on Orr’s Island.
