“On Seeing” is an exhibit of images by famed photographer Jay Maisel that opens July 29 at PhoPa Gallery. Maisel’s 60-year career spans both commercial and fine-art photography, and includes such achievements as shooting the first two covers of New York Magazine and the cover photo for Miles Davis’ “Kind of Blue,” the best-selling jazz album of all time. Maisel is known for emphasizing light, gesture and color in his works, such as “Red Wall and Rope.” It and other photographs will be on display to Aug. 29, and an opening reception is scheduled Thursday, Aug. 6, from 5-7 p.m., at PhoPa, 132 Washington Ave., Portland.
