“Rockbound” is an exhibit of landscape paintings by Nathaniel Meyer, which opens this week at Elizabeth Moss Galleries. Meyer’s works, such as “Schoodic Clouds,” are often inspired by the Maine landscape. But the solid land forms and the fleeting illusions of the sky are also a metaphor for the contrast between reality and the making of art. Or, as he says, an attempt “to establish a larger meaning upon a world of my own manufacture. Suspension of disbelief is at the heart of my work.” Meyer’s work is displayed along with “Speaking in Stars,” a collection of paintings by Emilie Stark-Menneg. The show opens with a reception Thursday, Aug. 20, from 5-7 p.m., at the galleries, in the Falmouth Shopping Center, 251 U.S. Route 1, Falmouth.
