BRUNSWICK — Arthur S. Pierce Sr., 90, died Nov. 7 at Mid Coast Hospital, with his family by his side.

Pierce was born in Bath on Jan. 26, 1924, a son of Bertrand T. and Lillian B. Jones Pierce. He was educated in Bath schools and graduated from Morse High School.

Pierce served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On Sept. 4, 1947, he married Alfreda L. Alexander, and the couple made their home in Sebasco.

He worked at Torrey Roller Bushing shortly before joining Gibbons Oil Co. and serving for many years as an oil burner technician.

Pierce enjoyed swimming, motorcycles, model airplanes and reading, but his real passions were his family, church and boating.

He was a member of the Sebasco Nazarene Church.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, who died March 3, 2010; and his brother, Harvey Pierce.

Surviving are two sons, Arthur S. Pierce Jr. and his wife, Eneeda, of Brunswick, and Ardenne F. Pierce and his wife, Deborah, of Phippsburg; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation and a funeral were held Nov. 12 at David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, in Bath with the Rev. Wally Staples officiating. Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery, Bath.

Memorial donations may be made in Pierce’s memory to the Skolfield House Activity Fund, 26 Cumberland St., Brunswick, ME 04011.
