BATH — Arthur R. Douglass Jr., 76, died at his home on July 9. He was born in Bath on November 3, 1935, the son of Catherine and Arthur Douglass Sr.
After attending Bath schools, Douglass enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1956. He then worked for 40 years at Bath Iron Works. He was a lifetime member of the Elks and an avid fan of New England sports teams. Arthur also enjoyed playing the guitar and attending bluegrass festivals. Most importantly, he loved his family and took great joy in family gatherings.
He is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Beverly “Betsy” Robinson.
Douglass is survived by his wife, Cindy Douglass; son Lawrence Durrell and his wife, Mary; son Kirk Douglass and his wife, Vicki; daughter Sharon L. Douglass and her boyfriend, Peter Small; daughter Karen Rooney and her husband, Terry; son Jerry Douglass and his girlfriend, Tamara Sloan; stepson Guy Meister and his wife, Melissa; stepson Gus Meister and his girlfriend, Tracy Sullivan; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Matthew, Justin, Ashley, Marc, Steven, Mary Kate, Sean and Jaline; three great-grandchildren, Nia, Levi and Jodie; his stepmother, Fran Douglass; and his half-sisters, Jackie Turner and Nancy Carvill.
Visiting hours were held July 13 at David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home in Bath. A memorial service was held at July 14 at Bath United Church of Christ. Interment with military honors followed at Oak Grove Cemetery.
