TOPSHAM — Arthur L. McEntee, 71, died Feb. 20 at Mid Coast Hospital after a long illness.

McEntee was born to Beatrice and Dolan McEntee on August 12, 1942, in Lisbon Falls. He graduated from Lisbon High School in 1960. He received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maine at Machias and a Master’s degree from the University of Maine at Orono. After college, he married Marilyn Cummings of Salisbury Cove and lived and taught in several Maine communities, including Waterville, Oakland and Bath. The couple was married for 48 years and had two daughters, Jennifer and Melissa.

McEntee taught at Casco Bay College and moved on to teach at the University of Maine at Machias for 11 years where he was the chairman of the professional studies division. Throughout his career he was the president of many different professional organizations and sat on many different boards. After he retired from his 35-year teaching career, he was the administrator at the Plant Memorial Home in Bath.

McEntee and his wife shared a love of travel and enjoyed trips to Europe, Alaska, Hawaii and Central America. He also enjoyed trips up and down the Maine coast and taking pictures of the scenery. He loved the theater, attending concerts and reading, especially books by Maine authors. He was known for his sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with family and long-time friends whenever he could.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn McEntee of Topsham; two sisters, Carole McEntee of Yarmouth, and Faye McEntee of Topsham; two daughters, Jennifer and Melissa McEntee of Wilton; and a niece, Katrina Kimball of Trenton.

A celebration of Arthur’s life was held March 1 at Demers-Desmond Funeral Home in Brunswick.
