TOPSHAM — Arlene P. Kearney, 91, died Nov. 12, at Cadigan Lodge, The Highlands, in Topsham.

She was born in Danielson, Conn., on Aug. 7, 1922, the daughter of Dieudonne and Antonia Page. She attended Danielson schools and graduated from Killingly High School in 1940. She then attended St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Hartford, Conn., and graduated in 1943. After graduation, she worked at St. Francis Hospital as an operating room nurse.

A World War II veteran, Kearney was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1945 and served as an operating room nurse in Naples, Italy. She was honorably discharged in 1946.

On Sept. 24, 1949, she married John J. Kearney. He died Nov. 6, 1989, in Cundy’s Harbor.

Kearney took time away from work to raise her family in the 50s and 60s, living in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey. In 1967, she returned to nursing as an operating room nurse and supervisor at Raritan Valley Hospital in Greenbrook, N.J. In 1982, she and her husband retired and moved to Cundy’s Harbor, where she lived until 2005 when she moved to The Highlands.

She enjoyed many things in life including traveling, being with her friends and collecting antiques, but most important in her life was her family. She was a kind, loving and generous person who put others’ needs before her own.

She is survived by her two sons, J. Michael Kearney and wife Deborah of Dedham, and William B. Kearney and wife Caryn; brother, Rene J. Page; two grandsons, Daniel T. Kearney and wife Jillian, and Matthew B. Kearney and wife Jeani; and one great-granddaughter, Rory S. Kearney.

A visiting hour was held Nov. 18 at Stetson’s Funeral Home, Brunswick. A Mass of Christian burial followed at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Brunswick.

Committal prayers with military honors were said Nov. 19 at Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson, Conn.
