HARPSWELL — Arlene E. Proctor, 89, died Oct. 4 at Mid Coast Health Care.

She was born in North Bridgton on May 28, 1925, the daughter of Everett and Lubelle Warren Darling. She lived on Little Yarmouth Island and attended school on Bethel Point, where her mother taught school. She later attended Brunswick High School for two years, and graduated from Bridgton Academy in 1943.

She married Leland Proctor in 1944, and the couple lived in Casco for 25 years. Leland died on Feb. 13, 1983.

Arlene was employed by local companies including Raytheon, Bridgton Knitting Mills, Jay Brush and Auerbach Shoe. She also worked cleaning summer cottages, while at the same time assisting her sister, Lillian, care for their father and two friends who were blind.

She was a member of the Great Island Church of the Nazarene, where she served as a treasurer, janitor and Sunday school teacher.

She was predeceased by two daughters, Arletta and Bonita, and her sister, Verona (Lillian) Toothaker.

She is survived by a son, LaForrest Proctor, and wife, Betty, of Harrison; a daughter, Judith Proctor Morgan, and husband, Paul, of East Harpswell; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Oct. 9 at Brackett Funeral Home, in Brunswick, and a funeral followed on Oct. 10 at the Great Island Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Mark Drinkwater and Pastor Kendall Dutton officiating.
