PORTLAND — Arlaina Marie Ryder, 58, died April 4.

She was born Feb. 26, 1957, in Portland, and graduated from South Portland High School in 1975. She worked for Woolworth’s and for the South Portland Fire Department, which she especially enjoyed. Most recently, she served as a provider of elder care.

Ryder was adept at using technology, and greatly enjoyed working with her computer. She also loved cooking (and dining on) a good meal, taking walks, and singing and playing the autoharp, which she volunteered to do at many local nursing homes.

Ryder was predeceased by her parents, Bob and Mary Smith.

She is survived by her husband, David Ryder; her daughter, Sara Labacz; her son-in-law, Mark; her granddaughter, Adaiah; and her brother, Robert.

A memorial service was held April 8 at Galilee Baptist Church, in Gorham, with the Rev. Dr. David Christiansen officiating.
