HARPSWELL — The Bailey and Orr’s Island Fire Department will host its 23rd annual auction and yard sale Aug. 13 and 14, to benefit the department’s training and rescue services.

Maine history buffs looking for a good cause might take special interest in this year’s prized item: a block of granite from the original Cribstone Bridge, which connects Orr’s and Bailey Island. But if you don’t have space in your backyard for a 5-foot piece of granite that weighs a ton, the block is just one item among many historic artifacts, boats, furniture and pieces of art for sale over the weekend.

The events take place on Harpswell Island Road on fire station grounds and inside the neighboring Orr’s Island Schoolhouse.

The silent auction runs from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m.-noon Sunday; the live auction is 10 a.m. Sunday, with registration beginning at 9 a.m. The yard sale will run 8 a.m.-2 p.m.both Saturday and Sunday.
