YARMOUTH — Anne (Donohoe) Sheehan, 71, died unexpectedly on Aug. 5 at her residence.

On May 11, 1938, she was born in Lowell, Mass., a daughter of John C. and Kathleen A. (Prindiville) Donohoe. She grew up in Chelmsford, Mass., and graduated from Notre Dame Academy.

In 1960, she graduated from the University of Connecticut.

From 1973-2000, she taught school at Durham Elementary and Greely Junior High School.

She was a passionate advocate for the rights of schoolteachers, and was actively involved with the Maine Education Association for nearly 25 years. Throughout the years, she served several terms as a board member on the MEA executive committee, chair of the MEA’s Government Relations Committee and often represented Maine educators’ interests before the Legislature. Her most recent appointment was as a trustee with the MEA Health Benefits Trust, addressing Maine’s retired teacher health insurance concerns. At the national level, served several terms on the National Education Association resolutions committee.

She was a political enthusiast and a passionate supporter of the Democratic Party.

In her retirement, she enjoyed the Red Sox, traveling with friends, spending time in Rye Beach, N.H. and especially enjoyed her 10 grandchildren, Ben, Matt, Aedan, Bailey, Anna, Olivia, Kenzie, Adeline, Tim and Jon.

She is survived by her four children, Eugene C. “Tripp” Sheehan III, and his wife Betsy of Wellesley, Mass., Daniel J. Sheehan and his wife Deb of Yarmouth, Kate S. Dimick and her husband David of Durham, Michael P. Sheehan and his wife Nora McGrath of Lincolnville; a brother, Jack Donohoe, and two sisters, Joan O’Neil and Barbara Newton; and 10 grandchildren.

Memorial services were held earlier this week.
