TOPSHAM — Anna Ione Douglas, 92, of Western Avenue, died Sept. 13 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

Douglas was born June 30, 1922, in Brunswick, the daughter of Clarence and Wilhelmina Fitz Griffing.

She attended Topsham and Brunswick schools, graduating from Brunswick High School in 1940. She married Herman C. Douglas, of Topsham, on Sept. 28, 1940, with the Rev. Robert Stuart officiating.

She was an active volunteer and a member of the Topsham United Baptist Church, where she was known as “the White Elephant Table lady.” In 1967, Douglas began volunteering at the Mid Coast Hospital Thrift Shop, and was awarded a pin for serving over 100 volunteer hours. She also served as president of the Riverview Cemetery Association, and vice president of the Merrymeeters from 1986-1987. She enjoyed fishing and collecting playing cards.

Douglas is survived by three children, Richard Herman, of Lisbon Falls, Kenneth Lincoln, of Topsham, and Sandra Lynn Caron, of Brunswick; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours are Thursday, Sept. 18, from 6-8 p.m., at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick, with a funeral scheduled there Friday, Sept. 19, at 1 p.m. Burial will be at a later date in Riverview Cemetery, Topsham.
