HARPSWELL — Angie A. Laverdiere, 90, died May 8 at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta.
She was born Sept. 22, 1923, in Syracuse, New York, the daughter of Samuel and Mattie Vincquera Palmisano. She attended Syracuse schools and received a nursing degree from the University of Rochester. She worked for Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester as a registered nurse, then served in the U.S. Navy for four years as a WAVE during the Korean War.
She moved to Harpswell in 1966, worked for the VA Togus for two years and then at MidCoast Hospital for 30 years, retiring in 1994.
She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross blood drives and was a member of the Harpswell American Legion. She was an avid baker and was known for her fabulous sugar cookies.
She was predeceased by four brothers, Anthony, Joseph, Angelo and Peter Palmisano; and two sisters, Mary Crandall and Carmella Sajna.
She is survived by her son, Michael Laverdiere; daughter, Elizabeth Allen, both of Harpswell; sister, Francis Lawless; grandchildren, Melissa Laverdiere, of West Paris, and Dannielle Allen, of Harpswell; and three stepgrandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held May 12 at St. Charles Borromeo Church-All Saints Parish, Brunswick. Burial at Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Augusta, will be at a later date.
Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
