COUSINS ISLAND — Andrew Patrick Dolan Jr., 83, of Yarmouth, died peacefully surrounded by family at his home on Cousins Island June 15.

He was born April 18, 1931, and was raised in Brooklyn, New York, by his parents, Andrew Patrick Dolan Sr., a native of Ireland, and Therese Dolan, 

He married his wife of 53 years, Eleanor Evelyn Dolan on Aug. 4, 1956. They settled in Enfield, Connecticut, and raised a family of five children. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948–1950 and in the U.S. Air Force from 1950–1954. He traveled extensively throughout the world serving as a flight engineer before he received an honorable discharge. He always had a story to tell about his adventures.

Dolan worked as a quality control engineer for Pratt and Whitney and Smith and Wesson before relocating to Cousins Island in 1985. He continued to work at Rockwell Industries until his retirement. Since 2003, he was a regular fixture at the local Ace Hardware Store where he worked part-time. He was an excellent carpenter and designed and built furniture for his home, family and friends. He was an avid genealogist and spent countless hours researching his own family tree and the ancestry of his family members.

A lifelong Catholic, Dolan was a parishioner and served at Sacred Heart Church in Yarmouth.

He was a kind, patient and dedicated family man to his five children and a generous and loving grandfather.

He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, John.

He is survived by his children, Mary, Tim, Margaret and husband, Doug, Kate, and Annie and husband, Paul; and three grandchildren, Paul Andrew, Emily and Eryn.

A gathering and celebration of his life was held June 20 at the Lindquist Funeral Home, Yarmouth. A Mass of Christian Burial was held June 21 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yarmouth with the burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yarmouth.
