PORTLAND — Americold Logistics of 165 Read St. was selected by the state Department of Transportation to build and operate a cold storage facility at the International Marine Terminal on Commercial Street.

DOT spokesman Ted Talbot announced the selection in an Aug. 31 press release. Company and DOT officials will now negotiate terms for the construction and operation of the freezer warehouse that is part of the expansion of the terminal near the Casco Bay Bridge.

Expansion also includes extending rail lines to the terminal, used by Icelandic container shipper Eimskip. DOT Commissioner David Bernhardt cited Americold’s extensive operations in six countries and relationship with Eimskip as a reason the company was selected.
