TOPSHAM — Althea J. Vose, 96, of Topsham, died March 1 at Mid Coast Senior Health Center in Brunswick.
Vose was born Sept. 17, 1916, in Gardiner to Raymond and Minne Merrill.
She attended schools in Belfast and was a graduate of Crosby High School, class of 1934. She worked as the manager of the cosmetic department of Senter’s Department Store for several years.
Vose married her husband, Edward, in 1934, and the two were married for 58 years until his death in 1992.
Upon her retirement, she and her husband owned and operated a grocery store on Tacoma Lakes in Litchfield eventually moving back to the Brunswick area in 1983.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and a member of Eastern Star.
She enjoyed their cottage on the Tacoma Lakes. In her earlier days, she enjoyed snowmobiling with friends and working outdoors around her residence and visiting old friends.
Vose is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws, Paul and Sue Vose of Derry, N.H., and Fred and Saundra Vose of Brunswick; two daughters and a son in-law, Joan and Wallace Staples of Dayton, Texas, and Paula Robbins of Topsham; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-children and four great-great-grandchildren.
