SOUTH PORTLAND — A concert on Sunday, Jan. 23, at the First Congregational Church of South Portland will honor a Cape Elizabeth woman and raise money for the ALS Association of Northern New England.

Three former University of Maine singers will reunite for the concert, which will honor Maddie Simpson, the co-owner of Shoppers True Value Hardware at Mill Creek, who is living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, the neuro-degenerative disease also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Performers for the 4 p.m. event, “Songs for Maddie,” are state Rep. Emily Cain, D-Orono; Kelly Caufield, Matthew Small, and pianist Nicholas Place. The concert will consist of musical theater and pop songs.

Tickets are $10 and will be available at the church, 301 Cottage Road, before the event. All proceeds will benefit the ALS Association of Northern New England, which promotes care and support for those living with ALS, while treating and seeking a cure for the disease.
