CAPE ELIZABETH — A Lincolnville woman was arrested Saturday night in Cape Elizabeth after allegedly setting fire to a vehicle she stole in Rockland.

Melanie Vangel, 20, of Moody Mountain Road, was arrested July 16 by state fire marshals, who charged her with two counts of arson and one count of theft by unauthorized use of property.

According to the fire marshal’s office, Vangelallegedly stole a 2014 Chrysler Town and Country van in Rockland either late Friday night or early Saturday morning. She then drove to New Hampshire before going to Cape Elizabeth and parking the van next to a garage on Two Lights Terrace.

Vangel allegedly set the vehicle on fire, which destroyed it and damaged the garage. The garage sustained several thousand dollars worth of damage, marshals said.
