PORTLAND — Alan Clarke Rice, 51, of Portland, died peacefully June 15 at Seaside Nursing Home after a long, tough battle with brain cancer. He was surrounded by his family and friends.

Born Jan. 20, 1962, in Portland, to Raymond and Grace Rice, his profession as a chef brought him to various restaurants throughout the Portland area. He enjoyed many hobbies especially playing Yahtzee and cards, candlepin bowling, fishing, camping and shooting pool. He thoroughly enjoyed spending quality time with friends and family. He will forever be remembered as a dear friend to all.

Rice is predeceased by his father, Raymond, and three siblings, Annie, Lester and June Rice. He is survived by his mother, Grace Rice; his son, Joshua Mimmovich and wife, Rebecca; his brother, Robert Rice, and sister, Bonnie Jensen; his nephew, Ronnie Rice; his niece, Jessie Rice; longtime best friend Preston Cole; friend and ex-wife, Karen Felker and his girlfriend, Debra Fitzgerald.

A memorial service was held Friday, followed by a graveside service at Brooklawn Memorial Park in South Portland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Rice to the Maine Cancer Foundation, 170 US Route 1, Suite 250 Falmouth, ME 04105, http://mainecancer.org/, 207-773-2533.
