CUMBERLAND —  Aging in Place Cumberland will hold its fourth annual Forum on Aging Nov. 3 at Greely Middle School, 351 Tuttle Road from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Author and housing expert Annamarie Pluhar will be the lead speaker at this year’s forum, which will be titled “Coming Home: Housing to Suit Our Needs.”

Joining her will be Tim St. Hilaire of Custom Property Solutions, Cumberland Town Planner Carla Nixon, Sue Durst of Portland’s Choice Real Estate, Kaitlin Morse of the Woods at Canco and Christopher Wasileski of Ocean View at Falmouth.

The other speakers will address in-home care, accessory dwelling units (“in-law” apartments), and ways to modify a house to enable older residents to stay at home and maintain their independence for as long as possible. Speakers will also discuss independent and group residences as well as assisted living facilities.

“We want to provide the best information available for people who want to stay in the community and ease the burden of caring for a home that may not meet their needs as they age,” said Rita Farry, AIP volunteer coordinator of the forum.

Port City Physical Therapy will also perform free balance screenings at the event, and various vendors and nonprofits will be in attendance to give information about their services.

Complimentary coffee and pastries will also be available, and a free raffle will be held featuring gift certificates to local restaurants.
