SCARBOROUGH — If the Grinch can steal Christmas, Sandy can delay Halloween.

Town officials and the Police Department on Tuesday asked the community to hold off on trick-or-treating until Saturday while, the town cleans up from Hurricane Sandy and deals with unsettled weather expected through Thursday.

Scattered power outages, debris in roads and fallen electrical wires pose safety concerns for children out after dark, police said. The department will not stop anyone from trick-or-treating on Oct. 31, but rescheduled its Halloween patrols to Saturday.
