PORTLAND — Attorney Mary Bonauto will deliver the University of Maine Law School’s 23rd annual Frank M. Coffin Lecture on Law and Public Service  at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29.

Bonauto, who has led local, regional and national efforts to legalize same-sex marriage, will speak on “Equality and the Impossible: Climbing the Arc of Justice.” Most recently, Bonauto argued successfully for marriage equality in front of the U.S. Supreme Court.

The annual lectures are named in honor of the late Frank M. Coffin, who served as a federal judge, congressman and a local public service leader and mentor.

The lecture will be held at the University of Southern Maine Abromson Community Education Center, 88 Bedford St., Portland. Organizers said the event is close to reaching seating capacity, but tickets can be reserved online at http://bit.ly/1MV2NUQ, or by calling 780-4344.
