NORTH YARMOUTH — Ace W. York, 78, died June 30 at Maine Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

On June 4, 1931, he was born in Washburn, son of Louis York and Daisy (Jones) York.

During World War II, he moved with his family from Presque Isle to Portland while his father worked in the shipyards.

While working at Glick Brothers in Yarmouth, he met his future wife, Georgette Roy, while she was attending North Yarmouth Academy. They were married on June 10, 1952 and had four children together, Temple, Cynthia, Kevin and John.

At age 28, he started his own contracting business in Yarmouth, A. York and Sons, and worked as a concrete contractor until his retirement in the early 1990s.

In addition to building foundations for numerous homes throughout Maine, he built his family home and donated land and labor to build the Nazarene Church in Yarmouth.

He loved all things “high-tech,” and spent many hours reading the Bible. 

He was predeceased by a brother, Eldon and sisters Doreen and Faustina.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Georgette York of North Yarmouth; four children, Temple York of North Yarmouth, Cynthia Camire and her husband Timothy of Auburn, Kevin York and his wife Terry of Portland, and John York of North Yarmouth; eight grandchildren, Samantha and Joel York, Gabin, Ryan and Nathan Selby, and Kevin Jr., Jessica and Christina York; four sisters, Gloria Morrill of Yarmouth, Mildred Loomis of Topsham, Louise Greenier of Vernon, Conn., and Helen Porter of Dade City, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held last week.

Arrangements are by Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth.
