FALMOUTH — A hardware store and a bank may seem unlikely bedfellows, but the Bangor Savings Bank building under construction at Route 1 and Fundy Road will contain both, plus another business when it is finally completed next spring.

Retail chain Ace Hardware will take over approximately 10,000 square feet of the former Saab dealership building, the largest of the three spaces.

While the bank will face Route 1 and Fundy Road, the hardware storefront will be on the north side, facing the Skillins property.

“They’ve made some small amendments to the plan,” Town Planner Ethan Croce said. “The project is substantially similar to what was approved in July.”

The changes, which went before the Planning Board Tuesday evening, include allowing a small area for outdoor sales, reconfiguring the parking lot and removing the garage doors.

The middle space, between the bank and the hardware store, which is the smallest of the three spaces, has not yet been leased.

Workers put together stone landscaping Tuesday along the side of the old Saab dealership on Route 1 in Falmouth. The building, which was purchased by Bangor Savings Bank earlier this year, will soon contain the bank, a new Ace Hardware and another undetermined business.
