COUSINS ISLAND – A. Catherine England, 80, died Jan. 13 at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough.
On Jan. 3, 1931, she was born in Lowell, Mass., the second daughter of Robert and Alice (Higgins) Crowley.
For many years she worked at the Bon Secour Hospital in Methuen, Mass., before moving back to Maine, where she worked at Mercy Hospital in Portland until she retired.
She was proud of her Cousins Island heritage, especially for building the first modern year-round home on Cousins Island in 1956, which still remains in the England family.
Her great joys in life were her family, her dear friends, gardening, table settings, her porch and her dog.
She is survived by her daughter Lynne Edwards and her son Jeffrey England; her sister Roberta Rowan; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A gathering and memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, on Thursday. Jan. 20, beginning at 3 p.m. with the gathering, followed by a 5 p.m. memorial service, and 5:30 p.m. reception.
