SOUTH PORTLAND — Three teenagers were charged in a rash of residential burglaries in the city spanning from July to late this month.

Police Sgt. Steven Webster said approximately 30 burglaries were reported in which burglars entered private homes and stole items. Webster said several of the burglaries occurred during the day. Most were reported from the area of Broadway and Elm streets, to the city’s Redbank area.

On Wednesday, police received information that allowed detectives to aggressively investigate the cases, and that led to three area juveniles, ages 16 and 17, being charged with theft and burglary, the sergeant said.

All three teens are currently serving house arrest. Webster said police believe the juveniles are responsible for many of the burglaries, and many of the stolen items were recovered.
