SCARBOROUGH — Two Scarborough town councilors hope to become candidates for the state House of Representatives in the June 12 primaries, which will also include contested party races in Cape Elizabeth and South Portland.

The deadline for party hopefuls to file nomination papers for the primaries was March 15. Unaffiliated candidates have until June 1 to file. The general election is Nov. 6.

In House District 29, which includes part of Scarborough, Councilor Shawn Babine filed for the Democratic nomination. He hopes to challenge Republican incumbent Rep. Karen Vachon of Scarborough in the general election. Babine’s term on the council runs until November 2020.

Councilor Christopher J. Caiazzo, whose term ends this November, filed as a Democrat in House District 28, where Rep. Heather Sirocki, R-Scarborough, is prohibited from seeking re-election due to term limits. Bradbury Dean Blake, also of Scarborough, filed for the Republican nomination in the district, which represents part of Scarborough.

In House District 30, which includes part of Cape Elizabeth, Anne M. Carney of Cape Elizabeth is facing Mary Ann Lynch, also of Cape Elizabeth, in the June 12 Democratic primary. Charles Peter Rich, of Cape Elizabeth, is unopposed for the Republican nomination. Rep. Kimberly J. Monaghan, D-Cape Elizabeth, is termed out.

A House District 32 contest between Democrats Christopher J. Kessler and Richard Rottkov, both of South Portland, will be decided in the June primary. Republican Tammy B. Walter, of Cape Elizabeth, will face the winner. Rep. Scott M. Hamann, D-South Portland, is not seeking re-election after three terms. District 32 includes part of Cape Elizabeth and a part of South Portland.

In House District 31, which includes part of South Portland, incumbent Rep. Lois Galgay Reckitt, D-South Portland is seeking re-election. Kenneth R. Decatur filed for the Republican primary.

In House District 33, independent Rep. Kevin J. Battle of South Portland is not running again due to term limits. Republican Christopher S. Story and Democrat Victoria E. Morales are the candidates who filed.

State Sen. Rebecca J. Millett, D-Cape Elizabeth, is seeking re-election in Senate District 29, representing Cape Elizabeth, South Portland and part of Scarborough. George Willard Van Syckel of Cape Elizabeth is her presumptive opponent.

State Senate District 30, representing Gorham, Buxton and part of Scarborough, has two declared candidates: incumbent state Sen. Amy Volk, R-Scarborough, and Democratic challenger Dr. Linda S. Sanborn of Gorham.
