PORTLAND — A Cumberland County grand jury heaped additional charges against a man and woman whose late September argument in Yarmouth allegedly escalated into a shootout.

The grand jury indicted Michael Lovering, 47, of North Yarmouth – who was charged with aggravated reckless conduct at the time of the Sept. 30 incident – on additional charges of criminal threatening and terrorizing.

Samantha Newton, 31, of Yarmouth, was indicted on additional charges of reckless conduct, criminal threatening and terrorizing, as well as her original charge of carrying a concealed weapon.

The December Cumberland County grand jury indictments were announced Friday by the county district attorney’s office. Indictments are not a determination of guilt; they are findings that enough evidence exists to prosecute.

Yarmouth police arrested the pair on Granite Street, Sept. 30, after a dispute between them ended in approximately 12 rounds fired. No one was injured.

A court hearing is set for Lovering at 8 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 13. Newton’s hearing will be held on Jan. 8.
