CAPE ELIZABETH — Town Councilors Jim Walsh and Jamie Wagner will not seek re-election this fall.

School Board member David Hillman will not run again, either, and Kate Williams-Hewitt said she’s not yet sure if she will seek another term.

As of Wednesday, School Board member John Christie III had not taken out nomination papers, which are due back to the town clerk by Friday, Sept. 4, at 4 p.m.. He didn’t return requests for comment.

Walsh, who has served on the council for six years, said it’s time for him to step down.

“I’m ready to move on,” he said. “I’ve had a great run and have worked with many great people.”

Walsh said he wants to spend more time with family, since he recently became a grandfather. He said the council requires a lot of time, and it’s important for people who are running to understand the commitment.

Wagner, who is in his first term on the council, said he also wants to spend more time focusing on other things.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time (on the council),” he said. “I made the hard decision not to run again based on the reality that I am simply too busy with my law practice and my three children.”

Hillman, who has been on the School Board for six years, said he’s not running again because it’s “time for new blood.”

Williams-Hewitt is completing her second term on the School Board.

“I have not yet decided not to run at this moment,” she said Wednesday.

Seven people have taken out nomination papers for three seats on the Town Council, each for a three-year term. As of Wednesday, three had returned the papers and had them verified.

Councilor Jessica Sullivan, who is seeking a third term, will be on the Nov. 3 ballot, along with James Garvin and Victoria Volent, a Planning Board member whose term is expiring.

Papers have also been taken out, but not yet returned, by Randi Bollenbach, Julie Sprague, Roger Bishop and Ralph Miller.

Four people have taken out papers for three, three-year School Board seats, and as of Wednesday, Elizabeth Scifres and William Gross III had returned them; John Voltz and Heather Williams Altenburg had not.

Papers for a five-year term on the Portland Water District Board of Trustees have been taken out by South Portland resident Joseph Siviski, but as of Wednesday he had not returned them. Papers for the water district must be obtained in South Portland, because the seat represents the city and Cape Elizabeth.
