BRUNSWICK — Town Councilors Margo Knight and Ben Tucker will not seek re-election this fall.

Nomination papers for candidates for three council seats and three School Board seats, in District 1, District 2, and District 6, become available on July 26.

Knight, who served District 6 for two terms, is the council’s vice chairwoman. She announced her planned departure at the council’s Monday meeting.

“It’s time for me to focus on family,  my job and other responsibilities,” Knight said. “I’ve been flattered and honored to serve for the past six years, but it’s time for me to step off and let someone else take over this very exciting district.”

Tucker, who served District 2 for two terms, cited similar reasons last month.

“I want my Monday nights back for dinner with my family,” he said. “I have enjoyed it very much, but it’s a time commitment I need to readjust and I will continue to be involved with the community.”

Tucker said he will also be helping his father, Ralph Tucker, in a bid for the state House seat that will be vacated by Rep. Charles Priest, D-Brunswick, next year, when Priest reaches his term limit.

Tucker said his father’s decision to run did not impact his decision to leave the council. He said he made up his minds months ago.

Councilor David Watson, who has served District 1 since 2002, has not said whether he will seek re-election.

School Board members Rich Ellis (District 1), Brenda Clough (District 2), and Janet Connors (District 6) have not announced their plans, either.

Interested candidates for Town Council and School Board can pick up nomination papers at Town Hall, 28 Federal St.

Candidates must live in the district they seek to represent and gather 25 signatures from registered voters. Petitions must be returned by Sept. 6.
